Shangri-La Wedding Stories - Raveesha & Miraj

August 10, 2021

All happily married couples have a unique story of how they met and what brought them together. Here’s the real story of how Raveesha met Miraj and how their dream wedding at Shangri-La Colombo was made a reality.

Miraj and I met through our mutual friends during one of his visits to Sri Lanka in 2018. We had organised a potluck Sunday lunch and he just happened to be there. We didn’t talk to each other much that first day but it turns out that we were both secretly checking each other out! A few days later, we were both at a wedding together and ended up being the only two single people on the dance floor at one point. After a few awkward glances, he finally asked me to dance and we hit it off from there! And that song became the first song we danced to when we were married. We went on a few dates after that but he had to go back to the UK soon after. We both felt that there was something there so we decided we would give long-distance a try even though we knew it would be hard. We both felt incredibly comfortable with each other and things just felt right so quickly. Luckily, he was able to come back to Sri Lanka often so we got to spend time with each other until, finally, one day he surprised me with a romantic, candlelit proposal on a trip to Negombo! I was so happy to say yes!

Planning our wedding was the most stressful thing that I ever had to do especially because Miraj wasn’t in Sri Lanka to help. Fortunately for us, the team at Shangri-La made that part of the organising so much easier. They were incredibly professional and knew exactly what we needed, even when we didn’t! The wedding turned out to be absolutely amazing and we will always cherish the memories we made that night. It’s been almost two years since that magical night and we still can’t stop reminiscing about how much fun we all had together.
